Today, Beyşehir Eşrefoğlu Mosque and Tomb are in Turkey, within the borders of Konya province in central Anatolia. Founded in the thirteenth century, the city of Beyşehir District of Konya province became the capital of Eşrefoğlu Principality one of the most important buildings in Anatolia from the time of the Eşrefoğlu Principality till the present day, the Eşrefoğlu Mosque was built using a combination of wood and masonry. The Eşrefoğlu Mosque has been on the tentative list for the World Cultural Heritage since 2012. The mosaic tiles used have exceptional technical and aesthetic features. Next to the mosque is the Eşrefoğlu Tomb, which was also tiled in a mosaic design. Over time, some of the original tiles on the dome were lost to the elements, and the stability of the structure was compromised by the surviving original tiles. The Protection Board of the Ministry of Culture made the decision in 2007 to use water-based paints to color and paint the missing sections of the dome tiles. In the post-2007 period, the development of new restoration techniques and technology has led to the re-evaluation of previously used methods. In light of the information obtained during the previous restoration, it was decided to restore it again in 2017, using new tiles fired in the original technique of the period and modern cutting methods. In this context, the aim of the study was to ensure the aesthetics and reveal the integrity of the completed work. Our article will describe the process and results of the restoration work carried out using modern techniques suitable for the original material.
