Within the surgical infections management setting, innovative technologies may play a key role, both in terms of specific innovative hospital procedures and protocols, and in terms of implementation of new devices useful to prevent and manage these complications. Since clinical governance and decision-makers are facing multiple options, they can ground their decisions on evidence-based and empirical information, which could be generated by means of Health Technology Assessment methods and approaches. Health Technology Assessment is thus acquiring strategic relevance, as it provides a systematic, evidence-based approach to evaluate interventions, optimizing resource allocation, preventing antimicrobial resistance, ensuring patient-centered care, and supporting ongoing quality improvement in the management of these critical healthcare challenges. In this view, being able to provide hospitals and clinicians with similar evidence may surely activate a virtuous process in which it will be possible to study exclusively the local adaptation of the more interesting technological impacts. However, at the same time, it is possible to generate a greater degree of agreement around the importance of managing surgical site infections, thus, also hypothesizing the implementation of holistic strategies that can embrace the institution of a multidisciplinary group of experts, who could be actively involved, by making a specific contribution.
