A real-life application of propagation of electromagnetic waves in an unbounded region is in wireless transmission of information. As another approach, information can be transmitted by means of wires. This brings us to the problem of propagation of electromagnetic waves in bounded regions. In particular, electromagnetic waves will be guided by a structure, called a waveguide, which can take many forms.
