This chapter focuses on how special education teachers collaborate with teachers of content area and non-content area subjects and work with students with disabilities. Students with disabilities are often placed into inclusive environments that address both content and non-content areas. Content areas addressed include English, mathematics, science, and social studies. Non-content areas or “specials” include art, physical education, and music. Strategies and best practices will be described for each area based on previous research findings. Implications for teachers of students with disabilities and how they can work with special education teachers will be emphasized.
