The road to heaven is paved with good intentions, and it is fair to assume that most people involved in healthcare truly wish to help their patients. While this universal altruism is critical in offering the best that we have to give, ultimately, it is the surgeon who is responsible for all aspects of care, and no matter how much they respect and trust their associates, it is always best to avoid making any assumptions and check on all facets of care. This will invariably lead to less misadventures and perhaps most importantly a solid understanding of all aspects of the care of their patient (who is now part of their own family).
