The technique I will describe is the approach for the resection of intramedullary spinal cord tumors. Although Fred Epstein is recognized as the father of modern spinal cord tumor surgery, his technique has only recently been accepted as the standard of care. I remember as a neurosurgery resident at NYU watching and learning the technique of neurophysiological-guided resection of these infiltrative tumors was being developed under Fred Epstein and Vedran Deletis.
