Ala Mosque is a historic building located in the centre of Kadirli district in the south of Turkey, near Osmaniye province. It was used with additions for three periods—Roman, Eastern Roman (Byzantine), and Anatolian Principalities Period. Nowadays remaining of the 2nd-century Roman Temple can be seen and a chapel from the 5th century. It was used as a church and monastery; After the region passed under the control of Dulkadiroğlu Principality in the 15th century, it started to be used as a mosque. In 2006 mosaics made in the Byzantine period around the building and inside the temple were unearthed as a result of the excavation carried out by our company with permission of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. During the restoration works, the mosaics were restored and covered for protection purposes. These treatments were to prepare the remains for possible future projects, like a new project carried out in 2018, which aims to reopen the building as a mosque, reorganize the area to maintain tourism, and use the building as a mosque-museum. In our presentation, this restoration and exhibition project will be explained by comparing the techniques and restoration methods applied in the project in 2006.
