In this chapter, chemical reactions are analysed more generally than in the previous chapters. In Chap. 24 , the focus was on the combustion of fossil fuels and the lower/higher heating value was introduced to evaluate a chemical conversion energetically. However, this method was rather impractical as the oxidation had to be divided into several parts and it had to be analysed whether condensation occurred. An equivalent model had to be applied for each combustion process depending on the boundary conditions.
