Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury Recovery in Adolescent Athletes
摘要
Recovery following ACL injury in adolescent athletes is complex and involves a variety of variables such as restoration of range of motion (ROM), strength, joint pain and effusion, joint loading considerations, neuromuscular control, central nervous system (CNS) adaptations, power, movement quality, patient reported outcomes (PRO), and psychological readiness. A thorough and intentional rehabilitation plan is critical to restoring function and setting the patient up for success as they return to sport. The process should begin immediately after injury and continue through the early postoperative and late phases of rehabilitation. For purposes of this chapter, adolescent recovery following ACL-R will be delineated into three sections: (1) early postoperative recovery (1st 12 weeks following surgery); (2) functional recovery (return to jogging to return to sport progression); and (3) return to sport and performance. Within these sections, focus will be on key clinical objective and subjective variables and emerging treatment techniques that have been established within the literature and can serve as guidelines for the clinician for progressing the patient across the rehabilitation continuum of care.
