Common Sports-Related Soft Tissue Injuries of the Hand
摘要
During sports the hand is at injury risk both from contact and communication. This chapter describes injuries to the extensor apparatus (central slip, terminal tendon, i.e., mallet finger), volar plate and collateral ligaments (from isolated injuries to frank dislocation), and flexor tendon (Jersey finger). Knowledge of these injuries are important for the following reasons: some entities require expedite treatment within a specific window period (e.g., Jersey finger, dislocation), injuries of some structures may not be immediately apparent (e.g., central slip injury), and conservative treatments are still amenable for some injuries and provide good results as long as they are administered correctly (e.g., mallet finger, isolated volar plate, and collateral ligament injuries). Important operative techniques and concepts related to these injures are also described.
