Chapter 8 covers the classical solution of vibration problems, starting with systems with one degree of freedom and then extending to systems with two degrees of freedom. Recognizing that dynamics problems most often result in nonlinear differential equations, we learn how to linearize the equations to put them into a form where the classical solution methods apply. We also focus on the fact that vibration occurs around stable equilibrium configurations and finding the solution to the statics problem is often a key part of addressing a vibration problem.
