Dermatologists face diagnostic and therapeutic challenges pertinent to the treatment of older adults facing hair growth disorders. The rapidly growing geriatric population have age-related physiological and pathological changes that contribute to alterations in hair growth patterns, texture, and pigmentation through their lifetime. This review examines the general pathophysiology and clinical presentations for hair growth disorders to help clinicians gain a better understanding of the disorders. A combination of therapies and medications improves the conditions. Additionally, psychosocial implications of hair disorders in older adults are discussed, indicating the importance of a patient-centered, multidisciplinary approach to hair loss management in modern healthcare. With a better understanding of common hair disorders, providers of healthcare will be better prepared to address the specific concerns of our aging population.
