Rosacea
摘要
Rosacea is a common, nonlethal dermatological condition that typically involves the skin of the face, particularly the nose, chin, cheeks, and forehead, but can affect other areas of the body. Rosacea shows the highest prevalence per decade of life from 60 to 70 years old; in those who possess skin phenotype type 1 via Fitzpatrick classification; and has a shifting demographic preference from adult females (<60 years old) to geriatric males (>60 years). Although the cause of rosacea is not clear, a wide array of risk factors can exacerbate the disease. Inflammation contributes widely to the symptoms of rosacea. Multiple types of rosacea present with different manifestations. Treatment for rosacea starts with patient education regarding disease basics, skin care, and risk factors. Medical intervention includes the use of topicals, systemic drugs, and innovative modalities as monotherapies or in combination depending on the specific case. Worsening state of disease or advance presentation is more common in geriatric populations due to delayed diagnosis.
