Traumatic injury to the bladder is relatively uncommon in adults and children. However, incidence of blunt trauma is rising as a result of modern transportation preferences and increasing reliance on motor vehicles travelling at higher speeds. Also, domestic or professional accidents as well as violence of any sort may contribute to the increasing frequency of abdominal and related bladder injury. The majority of bladder trauma cases require an immediate urological care and depending on the severity of associated injuries they may result not only in long-term disability but also death of the trauma victim.
