Global Mindsets
摘要
This chapter examines the essential role of cultural intelligence (CQ) and empathy in cultivating a global mindset among leaders and organizations. Through an integration of foundational theories, contemporary research, and diverse narratives—including those of renowned public figures, migrants, and everyday travelers—the chapter demonstrates how travel and cross-cultural engagement foster these capacities. It critically addresses issues of privilege and accessibility in travel, highlighting both its transformative potential and its limitations. Using real-world examples, including an expanded case study of Virginia’s “armchair journey,” the chapter illustrates how CQ, empathy, and creative leadership can be developed both internationally and domestically. The chapter concludes with actionable strategies for organizations and leaders to nurture these qualities, thereby supporting more inclusive, adaptive, and resilient leadership in our increasingly interconnected—and innovative—world.
