Faith-Infused Work
摘要
Faith-infused work goes beyond mere religious accommodation, shifting Workplace Spirituality (WPS) and Faith at Work (FAW) from a goal to a cause. Leaders require a deeper understanding of faith-infused work to shape their leadership, structural, and communication strategies effectively. Faith-in-the-Work (FitW) is an interwoven reality where professional activities are inseparable from faith, regardless of the specific faith or type of work. As a dynamic dimension of the FAW phenomenon, FitW is a crucial consideration for leaders seeking to motivate and serve employees. Examples of FitW highlight the relevance of specific FAW frameworks, servant-leadership and spiritual leadership skills, the potential for individual and organizational transformation strategies for promoting human flourishing. This chapter, employing a phenomenological methodology—collecting data from questions, photographs, and journals—revealed that FitW emerges as a distinct concept within the broader FAW paradigm. The inquiry identified 14 faith and organizational frameworks that provide a richer understanding of the participants’ lived experiences. Following Delbecq’s (2009) directive to explore “being itself” as the integration of the whole self at work, the WPS researcher engaged in the same practices as the participants: responded to the interview questions, photographed their work environment and tools, and journaled daily. This process added valuable perspectives through researcher reflection and reflexivity. This chapter explains one of FAW six core elements, FitW, and introduces a related concept: FitW with w(holy)ness using individual employee examples. The workplace environment and the leadership styles can play critical roles in how faith becomes infused at work. Extant research is examined for parallels to these findings. Finally, a FAW and human flourishing strategy, implemented through spiritual leadership, is proposed to transform organizations. This chapter contributes significant insights into the complex dynamics of FAW, FitW, and FitW with w(holy)ness, offering today’s leaders practical guidance and inspiration for leadership and policy-level interventions that support employee transcendence through work.
