Artificial intelligence (AI), especially generative AI (GenAI), is becoming more integrated into everyday life, work, and learning, bringing both opportunities and challenges. In this context, it is essential for all learners to develop repertoires of AI literacy practices. While many models of AI literacy have been proposed, these do not address the specific needs of language learners. Drawing on existing research, this entry presents a conceptual model of AI literacy designed for language learning contexts. Centred on interactions with AI at the interface of language and technology, the model comprises four interrelated domains: the operational, contextual, critical, and creative. It is suggested that educators should provide opportunities for language learners to concurrently develop capabilities in all four domains to support their AI literacy practices.
