This entry discusses the use of corpus-informed materials for language teaching and learning. It outlines how corpus linguistics employs large datasets of authentic texts to study language patterns and distributions, particularly for teaching applications. Educators and materials creators have utilized real-world and frequency-based language data that are ideal for materials design and classroom activities. Corpus tools and resources, including learner corpora have grown more accessible, especially online for both teachers and students. While barriers remain, corpus-based materials can enhance learner autonomy, exposure to authentic language samples, and data-driven discovery of patterns. Over the past two decades, teachers and materials developers who have incorporated corpus data, therefore, have produced teaching materials that reflect accurate language-in-use across pedagogical contexts.
