Immersive technologies, represented notably by extended reality (XR), have sparked groundbreaking transformations in the educational paradigm, necessitating the development of a novel form of literacy—immersive literacy. As an emerging field, immersive literacy encompasses the ability to appropriately select, creatively use, agentively interact with/within, and critically evaluate immersive technologies within multisensory contexts. This entry introduces a definition of immersive literacy, followed by examples and theories related to immersive language learning. The last section offers pedagogical implications that language teachers should consider when integrating immersive technologies into their teaching.
