Test Anxiety in Online Speaking
摘要
This entry highlights the technical and psychological factors behind EFL (English as a Foreign Language) learners’ anxiety in online speaking tests. Factors contributing to this anxiety include connectivity issues, absence of visual non-verbal responses, and reluctance to volunteer answers. Students may have concerns about missing classes due to technical issues, leading to increased stress and anxiety. For instance, noisy environments, power outages, and Internet connectivity issues can cause students to worry about their ability to focus during online classes. In the realm of psychology, the shift from traditional classroom settings to an online environment creates a feeling of isolation, making it challenging for learners to seek emotional support. To address test anxiety, equipping teachers with effective feedback strategies is essential. Educators have to create a supportive learning environment, encourage open expression of concerns, and provide stress management resources. Therefore, this entry seeks to implement effective pedagogical methods for online speaking courses, utilizing technology-based solutions (videoconferencing tools), redesigning assessments, and ensuring emotional support to help alleviate test anxiety among EFL learners.
