In Argentina, Holocaust memory was an early development. However, its actors and meanings have evolved over time. This chapter examines how the Holocaust has been remembered and utilised in Argentina since itsdemocratic transition (1983) and until the government of Mauricio Macri (2015–2019). Although the historical period of analysis is long, the focus will be placed on some of the moments when Holocaust memory had a pivotal place in the public discussions. In contrast to other Latin American countries, in Argentina, the Nazi genocide of the Jews of Europe has been placed in conversation with the traumatic national past—the military dictatorship—and its legacies. This chapter is based on two premises: first, that although the memory of the Holocaust is global, its public uses are locally situated, and second, that, independently of the Holocaust’s uniqueness or universality, its memory has been instrumentalised to question, comprehend, or intervene in contemporary situations.

摘要
