Early, intensive and focused rehabilitation in aphasia has significant impact on long-term functional outcome, but the results of screening tests in the acute phase may be influenced by low vigilance, sensory or cognitive deficits, dysarthria or apraxia. The author emphasises that the interaction between frequency and intensity of the rehabilitative treatment and improvement of the aphasic disorder is complex.
