One common result of intense exercise is delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS), which is characterized by pain and tenderness and triggers an inflammatory response. Manual therapy techniques such as trigger point therapy, positional release therapy, and myofascial release therapy have proven to be highly effective in alleviating DOMS symptoms and restoring functional movement. Myofascial release techniques comprise instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), foam rolling, and fascial mobilization techniques. These provide innovative approaches to reducing myofascial adhesions, enhancing blood flow, and restoring tissue elasticity. Furthermore, manual lymphatic drainage therapy helps reduce muscle soreness and promotes recovery post-exercise by improving lymph circulation and eliminating biochemical waste products/metabolites.
