Pramila Balasundaram’s Sunny’s Story
摘要
Disability studies is an emerging field of inquiry which focuses on the ideological concepts of “ableism” and “disablism” and attempts to deconstruct ideas surrounding disability. The concept of disability is usually associated with stigmatization, ostracization, dependency, sexlessness, femininity, and because of karma. Pramila Balasundaram’s Sunny’s Story has rightfully captured the sociopolitical consciousness that revolves around disability. The narrative challenges the hegemony of normalcy, which perpetuates the idea of disability, in which social groups discriminate against, subjugate, and devalue disabled identities.
