The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately impacted people with disabilities (PwDs), exacerbating existing inequalities in healthcare access, social support, and economic stability. This chapter explores challenges faced by PwDs during the pandemic and offers recommendations for future preparedness. PwDs face heightened risks of severe COVID-19 outcomes, including mortality, particularly among those with intellectual disabilities. Barriers such as difficulties with physical distancing, hygiene measures, and access to public health information increase these vulnerabilities. Living conditions, disruption in care, social isolation, food insecurity, and access to vaccines further elevate morbidity and mortality risks. Comorbidities prevalent among PwDs also contribute to severe outcomes. Targeted rehabilitation and long-term health strategies are essential to address the ongoing effects of COVID-19 on this PwDs.
