COVID-19: Disability Policy in Italy
摘要
Access to health services in Italy by people with disabilities and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic has been rarely studied. However, some studies provide an analysis of how this demographic group encountered disproportionate challenges compared to other citizens. All over the world, disability is often associated with greater odds of housing challenges, food and water insecurity, and challenges obtaining medications and receiving COVID-19 testing and vaccination. Furthermore, people with disabilities have greater odds of hospitalization for COVID-19 infection. Consequently, the COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically brought to the light the difficulty in protecting and guaranteeing equal opportunities and nondiscrimination to people with disabilities in emergency medical situations. This entry discusses how the COVID-19 pandemic has increased clinical risks and disproportionately affected the socioeconomic lives of people with disabilities in Italy.
