Chronic pain and its related impairments represent a major public health concern that has an influence on patients’ lives, medical systems, and society. The nonpharmacological strategy of neuromodulation has drawn more and more interest as a possible remedy. This method controls the activity of the neurological system using a variety of techniques, such as deep brain stimulation, transcranial magnetic stimulation, occipital nerve stimulation, dorsal root ganglion stimulation, peripheral nerve field stimulation, and spinal cord stimulation. Numerous chronic pain problems, including neuropathic pain, persistent spinal pain syndrome (formerly known as failed back surgery syndrome), complex regional pain syndrome, migraine, and many other chronic refractory pain syndromes, have been studied in relation to these therapies. The fundamental processes encompass adjusting neural and brain circuits, diminishing maladaptive plasticity, and fostering intrinsic analgesia. Although neuromodulation has been shown to be effective in treating chronic pain and related impairments, it is still sometimes difficult to apply these methods in clinical settings. Important factors to consider include patient selection, suitable stimulation parameters, and integration into a holistic pain management plan. Nevertheless, there is ongoing research and clinical investigation into the possibility that neuromodulation could offer a focused, nonpharmacological, and possibly more effective treatment for chronic pain and associated disabilities. As this discipline develops, including neuromodulation in a multidisciplinary pain management strategy might give those suffering from the crippling consequences of chronic pain fresh hope.
