Lymphocytic colitis is a form of microscopic colitis clinically associated with watery diarrhea. Histologically, increased lymphocytes are seen in the colonic epithelium and the lamina propria. Lymphocytic colitis is associated with ≥20 intraepithelial lymphocytes per 100 surface epithelial cells. There is no increase in collagen. Because the epithelium endoscopically appears normal, mucosal biopsy for histological examination is needed to make the diagnosis.
