Recipient Site and Defect Analysis in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Bone Grafting
摘要
Appropriate reconstruction of the maxillofacial bone defects can improve the quality of life in individuals. Reconstruction of these defects is always challenging due to the variable characteristics of defects in size, morphology, and location and different materials and methods used for these procedures. Thus, deciding on a proper treatment plan and logical expectations regarding the outcomes requires adequate knowledge about defects classifications and recommended and available treatment plans. This chapter will discuss the etiology of maxillofacial bone defects. Then, different classification systems for large and localized bone defects will be introduced. In the end, this chapter will discuss available treatment plans for the reconstruction of maxillofacial bone defects and suggest algorithms to help clinicians to make proper decisions.
