Nasoalveolar molding or presurgical infant orthopedics is a popular technique practiced by many cleft centers around the globe. The procedure is used to bring the alveolar cleft closer together and reshape the collapsed nostrils in infants born with cleft. It is done by an acrylic plate and a nasal extension called as a nasal stent attached to the plate. Over the years many modifications of the procedure have been developed by various authors, some of most recent being virtual technology, CAD designing methods, and rapid prototyping. Over the years there have been difference of opinions pertaining to the efficacy of NAM which has been a subject of debate and is an ongoing work.
