Gender Based Violence: Where Are We At? Threats and Tools in the Digital Era
摘要
To analyse how Gender Based Violence (GBV) fits into the digital age, it is necessary to review gender perspective in order to acknowledge which the visible and invisible signs of GBV are and how digital media may represent a new space through which GBV can either be eradicated or be instrumental in increasing its risks. In this new digital context, it is worth asking whether the current instruments and tools, such as international laws and policies, are adequate and sufficient or if they may need to be complemented by a broader perspective, one that includes a full recognition of the state’s responsibility as guarantor and promoter of gender equality. The international legal framework and policies should be accompanied by an educational and cultural revolution which can make comprehensive sexuality education compulsory at all school levels and also create GBV prevention programs focused on men’s participation.
