Linking Diet and Cultural Norms to Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) Prevention
摘要
This chapter explores the intersection of dietary pattern and cultural norms as a dual approach to reducing T2DM. We examine the dietary risk factors associated with the disease, the role of culture in shaping dietary habits, the history of food evolution and traditional food practices, the transition of food culture from traditional to Westernized, and the factors influencing the food environment. It includes evidence-based examples on how culturally aligned dietary patterns such as Mediterranean, Asian, and indigenous can be adapted regionally while maintaining the cultural integrity. These findings highlight and recommend the need for interdisciplinary collaboration between government, private organizations, health systems, and the community to develop and implement strategies for the prevention of T2DM.
