Adolescence is the most crucial stage of life making transition from childhood to adulthood. This period is characterized by rapid physiological, sexual, neurological and behavioral transformations. Nutrition plays a vital role not only in supporting physiological development of child but also in shaping healthy human capital. During adolescence, nutritional requirement reaches at peak to sustain healthy growth and development. Meeting the nutritional needs of adolescents is essential to support physical and cognitive growth, prevent nutrient deficiencies and reduce the risk of noncommunicable diseases later in life. South Asia is home to a significant proportion of the global adolescent population. Investing in adolescent nutrition can drive healthy growth and development, contributing to economic growth through the demographic dividend. Nutritional status and well-being of adolescents in the region are shaped by multiple factors at the community level and at an individual level. However, adolescent in South Asia continues to face persistent challenges such as early marriage, early parenthood, poverty, domestic violence and sexual abuse, all of which negatively impact their health, nutritional status and overall survival. Region faces a triple burden of malnutrition among adolescents including undernutrition, overweight/obesity and micronutrient deficiencies. These issues are largely driven by food insecurity and poor dietary habits, with adolescent diets often consisting of energy-dense, nutrient-poor foods, sugar-sweetened beverages and insufficient fruits and vegetables. Adolescent eating behaviors are broadly shaped by environmental influences, family practices and individual preferences. Globally and regionally, several guidelines exist to promote adolescent nutrition. To ensure the effectiveness of these initiatives, programs and policies must adopt a multisectoral approach, addressing the interconnected factors that shape adolescent nutrition and health outcomes.
