Policy and Food Marketing to Children
摘要
The food marketing strategies employed by industries frequently promote unhealthy choices, leading to rising rates of poor eating habits among children, childhood obesity, and associated long-term health disorders. To address these challenges, policymakers have implemented various legislative and regulatory measures targeting deceptive food marketing practices, including a ban on mass media food commercials aimed at children and restrictions on advertising in schools and other child-centric environments, as well as monitoring front-of-package labeling (FoPL). However, the effectiveness of these regulations varies by country; some rely on industry self-regulation, while others enforce stricter government-led measures. Conflicts of interest among stakeholders contribute significantly to the ambiguity and leniency of enforced laws. Therefore, updated policies with deterrent and enforceable content, strong inter-sectoral cooperation, and an efficient infrastructure for monitoring and prosecuting violations are critical for successful policy implementation.
