War of Tweets: Sentiment Analysis on Ukraine Russia Conflict

Russia attacked Ukraine on February 24, 2022, which is now referred to as the UkraineRusso War. As a result, Ukraine lost control of a significant portion of its territory to Russian forces and many people have lost their lives, both in Russia and Ukraine. People from all over the world expressed their sentiments and emotions about the war through different social media platforms. The current study utilizes more than 1 million tweets collected from a popular social media platform, Twitter from 31st December, 2021 to 20th August, 2022 and analyses the data using sentiment analysis. The analysis entailed three major tasks viz. Sentiment analysis, emotion classification and sentiment classification. Emotion classification indicated dominance of negative emotions s of fear, anger and sadness, while in sentiment classification, Support Vector Classifier produced best accuracy scores of 95.68%.
