This chapter provides a description of hybrid LCC/VSC HVDC systems, the most likely configurations of hybrid systems and a comparison of these configurations based on the information provided by CIGRE SC B4 Working Group B4.79 which is currently in progress, and its technical brochure will be released in 2022. Then the main equipment, control functions, and protection strategies installed and applied specifically for the Wudongde and Baihetan hybrid HVDC projects are discussed. Finally, four application examples of hybrid HVDC systems are presented.
