A structured overview is given of a holistic therapeutic approach, moving from general educational and motivational considerations to therapeutic measures depending on stage of acquisition, with linguistically based principles of intervention. Computer-based forms of exercise are presented as an example of utilising modern motivating formats of intervention. Neuropsychological therapy principles are presented, supplemented by therapy programmes for executive function skill in individuals with dyslexia. Comorbidities of dyslexia/reading disability are elucidated, emphasising learning disorders and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Current theories are presented. Treatment methods concerning auditory processing disorders are explained. The role of the child and adolescent psychiatrist in cases of psychological problems and psychiatric disorders in dyslexia is depicted. Prognostic aspects are described considering chances and talents of patients with dyslexia.
