This article will focus on a web series titled Betaal that came out on 24 May 2020. The web series is about a group of zombies of British soldiers who wreak havoc on an Indian community. They go by the name of the army of Betaal. Now, Vetala or Betaal is a mythological character who is closely connected to death and revenance in Indian mythology, especially Hinduism and Buddhism. This essay will explore the web series from two aspects. First, this article will explore the significance of the use of the Vetala myth in the series and will try to find out how the directorial take on Betaal in the web series of that name converges with or diverges from the traditional Indian idea of Vetala. Second, it will try to find out whether there are any subcutaneous socioeconomic significations that the series aims to bring to the forefront.
