Zombies and Militarization in Historical Context
摘要
This chapter examines the feedback loop between the zombie and militarization. This loop acts as a societal point of convergence driving existential angst on globalization, militarization, politics, business, science, extremism, and morality. To illustrate how the zombie both informs and is informed by these drivers of change, the chapter juxtaposes the undead in popular media to include television, film, literature, comic books, and video games with their use in nonfiction, such as in history, military theory, war-gaming, and national security planning. Fiction and nonfiction thinkers alike refine this continually evolving dynamic and express it as an analogy for real world threats. Often, these expressions touch upon humanity’s collective apocalyptic fears. Though the subject matter is often dire, fictional and nonfictional considerations of militarization and the zombie apocalypse make the narrative publicly digestible and occasionally thought-provoking.
