This chapter analyzes the significance of the zombie in literary and cinematic representations of the Holocaust. It argues that such representations are situated in the chasm between narrativized history and traumatic memory. Fictional narratives of the Holocaust are subject to the “presentism” of the current moment in which they are coopted into political debates or used as abstract signifiers of good versus evil. The bare life of the undead zombie body, on the other hand, brings pack the trauma of the murder of six millions which refuses to be laid to rest or relegated to the narratives of the misremembered past.
