This chapter charts the history of mummy narratives from the fiction of the nineteenth century into the films produced from the 1930s to the 1950s. It considers similarities between mummy and zombie narratives and situates them within the historical context that animated them. In the process, it addresses key themes around consumption, production, desire, and imperial anxiety.
