Africa is constrained with challenges such as poverty, climate change, food and water security, deforestation, environmental degradation, biodiversity loss, natural disasters, etc. Nature- based solutions (NbS) can be positioned strategically in order to simultaneously tackle these challenges confronting Africa. NbS have progressively gotten the needed traction in recent times due to its low cost, practicability, and effectiveness in different parts of the globe. In spite of increased political support gained for the use of NbS, concerns have grown on its limits, uncertainties about the scale of contribution, implementation challenges; availability of necessary safeguards; worries about utilization of offsets by private entities. This study reviewed the literature and documented the cases of NbS at country and regional levels in Africa. Examples are in Rwanda, Togo, Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa, West African cost management (WACA) programme. This study also took a cross view of the NbS cases in Africa to identify the strategies implored and effectiveness of the NbS approaches. This study also aimed at sharing knowledge gained from the cross analysis to help other African countries to learn and build similar or greater capabilities in NbS strategies. This chapter also provides some policy recommendations.
