Graphical visualizations in sports settings can provide perspective on questions of interest to participants, media members, and fans. They also can tell colorful and sometimes surprising stories that support or refute popular beliefs about strategy, expected values, and win probabilities. In this chapter there are examples from several sports to illustrate interesting results, but also to show the variety and usefulness of different types of graphical approaches. Practitioners building visualizations will, depending on the application, typically have choices of scale, color or shading scheme; two-dimensional or three-dimensional alternatives; and sometimes even whether a table of values is more informative than a graph. Examples are provided to illustrate how appropriate choices can aid researchers in creating graphs and tables that are attractive and informative.
