Media Memory
摘要
Media Memory refers to the multitude of expressions of shared recollections that materialized and publicly disseminated through communication channels. The research of Media Memory investigates how technology and mediation processes affect remembrance in culture and society, as well as in mass audiences and individuals. This entry presents (1) the basic fundamental principles of the concept (e.g., the triple role the media plays: the stage, the actor, and the director of the performance of memory manifested in the public arena), (2) the diverse concretizations and processes related to the term (e.g., commemorative vs. noncommemorative memory), (3) the beginnings of Media Memory research in journalism studies, (4) the current challenges of digital media memory, (5) six perspectives for exploring the mediatization of collective memory as a multidirectional process of concretizing a narrative of the past into a functional sociopolitical construct.
