Smart Metering Systems
摘要
Smart meters are being installed worldwide and are used or expected to be used for a wide variety of purposes. The data from a smart meter system represents the actual condition of energy usage on customer side, thus it has a big potential for providing not only valuable information for power grid management, but also additional values for our society. This chapter aims to provide an overview of the utilization of data from smart metering systems, to integrate and organize the values, tasks, and approaches to be taken, and to provide perspectives to the electric power utilities and associated market participants from a technology point of view. The information in this chapter is sourced from practical experiences from around the globe where smart meters have been deployed. The use cases emanating from this worldwide review provide an insight into the use of data, and how it is used in the industry. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) requirements and constraints are extracted for the use cases, and a variety of technologies to enable the flow of the smart metering data for use by the utility are considered. The completion of a smart meter deployment and system development entails a significant effort, but to provide true value to society, the system architecture associated with the smart metering system is fundamental to its success. It is expected that the use cases, the associated technology, and the system architecture, as evaluated and described in this chapter, will assist in the identification of the required technology features of smart metering systems for appropriate utilization by utilities and associated stakeholders.
