Women Entrepreneurs: Growth Mindset Versus Fear of Failure
摘要
Entrepreneurship, even though is a very prevalent self-employing phenomenon now, still is considered as navigating uncharted waters, fraught with the looming specter of failure (sharks) and the threat of exploitation (pirates) such as copyright infringement and scams. The uncertain ecosystem of entrepreneurship more often than not dissuades individuals from pursuing their innovative ideas despite their potential. This fuels their fear of failure which hinders their progress or even ends up letting the aspiring entrepreneurs let go of their dreams altogether. When we talk about women in entrepreneurship, they have to navigate additional hurdles of social and cultural barriers, which result in a perpetual fear of failure (Wannamakok & Chang, Gend Manag 35:553–566, 2020). It takes people with certain traits and strengths to venture into entrepreneurship. These characteristics may include resilience, social competence, entrepreneurial passion, and attitude, to name a few. It is a game of wit, grit, and mindset, and the reward is entrepreneurial success. A growth mindset is a unique kind of strength that empowers individuals, especially women, to surmount obstacles encountered on their journey toward accomplishing their aspirations, to realizing their dreams. It can prove to be an antidote to the fear of failure of aspiring women entrepreneurs.
