This chapter examined the impact and problems of agricultural policies on the socioeconomic development of Lagos State between 1967 and 2019. To be able to do this, the chapter was divided into two sections. The first focused on the impact of agricultural policies on the socioeconomic development of Lagos State from 1967 to 2019, and the second section focused on the problems associated with agricultural policies in Lagos State from 1967 to 2019. It further identified and analyzed the primary, secondary, and tertiary problems that hindered the effective implementation of agricultural policies in Lagos State during the specified period. Hence, understanding these problems is essential for devising strategies and interventions to overcome them and promote the development of the agricultural sector in Lagos State. The chapter explored the impact of agricultural policies on food security and production in Lagos State. Food security is a critical concern, and the effectiveness of agricultural policies in ensuring a sufficient food supply is vital for the well-being of the state’s population. This section analyzed the measures implemented to promote agricultural productivity, such as improved farming techniques, access to inputs, and support for small-scale farmers. Furthermore, the chapter investigated the impact of agricultural policies on land use in Lagos State. As urbanization and industrialization accelerated in the state, there have been significant changes in land allocation and usage. It further examined how agricultural policies influenced land availability, land conversion, and the allocation of land for agricultural uses versus other purposes.
