The proliferation of digital technologies in Africa has transformed the way parents raise their children, presenting both opportunities and challenges. Against this backdrop, this qualitative desktop research and discourse analysis explores the complex interplay of culture, technology, and child upbringing in Africa, with a focus on digital parenting discourses, practices, and implications. Using a qualitative desktop research approach, this chapter analyzed existing literature, policy documents, and online forums to examine the dominant discourses and narratives surrounding digital parenting in Africa. The discourse analysis revealed that a complex interplay of cultural values, technological advancements, and societal expectations shapes digital parenting in Africa. The findings highlight the tensions between traditional cultural values and modern technological advancements, as well as the need for African parents to navigate multiple discourses and narratives surrounding digital parenting. The chapter also emphasizes the importance of context-specific solutions that consider the diversity of African cultures and experiences. The chapter concludes that digital parenting in Africa necessitates a nuanced understanding of the intricate interplay between culture, technology, and child-rearing. To support African parents in navigating the digital landscape, policymakers and practitioners are recommended to develop culturally sensitive and context-specific digital parenting programs and policies that prioritize parental empowerment, digital literacy, and online safety.
