Media Bias and Political Influence
摘要
This study examines how two Western media outlets, the BBC and Fox News, represent the groups known as the YPG (People’s Protection Units) and Hamas in their news reporting. These organizations are often involved in conflicts and are described differently depending on political perspectives. The main goal of the research is to understand whether these media sources portray the two groups in a fair and balanced way, or if there are noticeable differences in how they are presented. Using a qualitative approach, the study analyzes selected news articles and cover images published between 2014 and 2023. It focuses on word choices, headlines, and visuals, as well as how themes like conflict, leadership, and victimization are presented. The aim is not to determine whether the portrayals are right or wrong, but to examine how news content is shaped by various factors such as political orientation, national interests, or editorial style. By looking at both written and visual elements, the study explores how similar types of events involving different groups may be covered in different ways. This provides a clearer view of how media outlets may approach the same topic with different tones or focus points depending on context. This research argues that political alliances and national interests influence how terrorist organizations are framed in Western media. By comparing the representation of Hamas and YPG, the study reveals how news reporting can shape public opinion and reflect broader political agendas. The findings contribute to discussions on media bias and the role of journalism in international politics.
