This chapter examines the quality standards for the care of people with dementia, focusing on the user’s perspective. Through a review of relevant literature and case studies, the importance of culturally sensitive care practices is highlighted, particularly in non-Western countries such as Sri Lanka. Although European dementia care standards may not be appropriate for Sri Lanka, this chapter emphasizes the need to integrate local cultural, religious, and family values into care. The discussion emphasizes the role of informal care, especially in regions with limited formal health infrastructure. In addition, the chapter calls for the development of culturally appropriate, community-based dementia care services that take into account both user and institutional perspectives. Finally, customized care models are recommended that are aligned with the sociocultural and spiritual values of the region and improve the quality of life of people with dementia and their caregivers.
